The metabolism is a complex set of chemical reactions that occur in living organisms in order to create energy to maintain life. Understanding genetic polymorphisms, nutritional deficiencies, mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired detoxification, oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, cerebral hypoxia and impaired energy production is central to effective treatment of Autism and related neuro-biological disorders including allergies and ADHD.

Dr. Mumper is Medical Director of Defeat Autism Now! She is also President and CEO of The Rimland Center in Lynchburg, Virginia. She graduated magna cum laude from Bridgewater College and attended the Medical College of Virginia, did residency training at the University of Massachusetts and University of Virginia, and was invited to serve as Chief Resident of Pediatrics at UVA

Dr Frank R Golik

MBBS (Hons QLD) FRACGP MACNEM, graduated from University of Queensland with 2nd class Hons in 1975; 2 years junior RMO at Royal Brisbane Hospital; 1 year as senior RMO at Atherton Hospital, Nth Qld. He commenced in solo Private Family Practice in Clayfield, Brisbane in 1979. He later formed a multi disciplinary clinic in Clayfield some 10 years ago. Dr Golik gained his fellowship in the RACGP in 1982; and is a member and occasional lecturer of the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine. His special areas of interest and passion are autism, ASD, ADHD, Musculoskeletal medicine; Dietary and lifestyle therapy; Thyroid conditions; Chelation therapy; and the Metabolic Syndrome. Biomesotherapy forms a significant part of the therapeutic approach of his clinic. He has attended the Bill Walsh Outreach / Training since 2005 and has attended the MINDD / D.A.N conferences since 2005.

Jeanie Ryan

Jeanie is a qualified dietitian and nutritionist with an extensive private practice across south east Queensland. Jeanie first trained as a nurse in Ireland where she was gold medalist in her final year. Her areas of special interest are food allergy, and behavioural disorders in children. She is recognised as a specialist in the dietary management of behavioural disorders including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder.

Luke Hennessy has been a chiropractor for over 15 years.

Luke set up his first chiropractic practice in Forrestfield, Western Australia in 1997. Here he became well known for his success in applying the multi faceted techniques of chiropractic with families and in particular children and women. Victoria has furthered her knowledge with specialised training in neuro-developmental and multi-sensory techniques, the Listening Program and Learning Connections. As a Special Needs Teacher who has overcome ADD, Victoria understands what it is like to have learning difficulties. She focuses on how each child learns best using multi-sensory techniques, neuro-developmental exercise therapy, sound therapy, special diet education, classroom strategies and homework/home-learning methods. Behavioural Therapies, Emotional Intelligence & Self-Esteem 3:25pm - 3:45pm

Children with neuro-biological disorders are often challenged in relating to others socially and emotionally. In the case of ASD, behavioural intervention is essential to help develop social and communication skills. A range of behavioural interventions (ABA, RDI, Sonrise, Bridges) can be even more effective once biomedicine has addressed biochemical imbalances.

In the case of children with mood & digestive disorders, learning delay, allergies and all neuro-biological illness, the children often do not have full access to one of the primary responses to stress; to feel comforted by another, such as a parent, sibling, friend, or mentor. Many behaviours are expressions of this anxiety and when the anxiety is lowered behaviour can improve. Parents, teachers and carers can learn how to stimulate emotional intelligence through a range of exercises and games.

Simon Zuscak is a Director of Impact Health Pty Ltd. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Psychology with 1st class honours and a Post-Graduate Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. Simon has written two theses; One on Prenatal Exposure to Testosterone and Adult Performance on Tasks involving Visual Spatial Processing: A Correlational Study, and a second thesis on Cognitive Correlates of Alcohol Consumption. Simon is a current full member of The Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) and the Clinical College of Psychologists (MCCP).

Dr Richard Stuckey

Dr Richard Stuckey has been in General Practice for 39 years and was introduced to biomedical treatment protocols in 2004.
His initial work in this field was with adult illnesses such as schizophrenia, depression and anxiety.
Most patients showed significant clinical improvement when documented underlying nutritional deficiencies were identified and corrected.
This presentation will focus on those with Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
It will concentrate on biochemical identification of nutritional deficiencies, treatment strategies to correct these, case histories showing the clinical improvement when these imbalances are corrected, research data from assorted authors and a 1 year survey of 140 of his own patients.
The emphasis of the talk is that this approach is a piece of the Autism puzzle and that best results are likely to be obtained by the combination of nutritional correction with assorted early intervention strategies.

Perth Pharmacist Liz Chamberlain will speak as a parent taking her experiences from the Mindd Foundation Principles she has adopted for her son Declan. Her special interest in Glyconutritional Supplementation challenges our understanding of Autism as an Autoimmune Disorder. Liz has attended every Mindd Forum in Sydney and works at both St John of God Hospital Murdoch and Mercy Hospital Mt Lawley and also provides a locum service to community Pharmacy. Liz and Mark have two daughters and their son who is now 13 years old.

Lily has also recently contributed to two separate integrative medical textbooks designed for medical students and GPs to be published by Elsevier in June 2010.

Julie Matthews (DVD)

Many childhood disorders including ADHD, allergies, asthma, and autism stem from similar underlying causes such as nutrient deficiencies, digestive disturbances, inflammation, immune system imbalances and poor detoxification. In this session, you will learn how the health of the body and mind are interconnected, how poor digestion and gut imbalances affect the brain, and the importance of nutrition to the healing of these systems. We will dispel many myths of mainstream nutrition, such as â€œfat is badâ€-lowfat is good, â€œthe dietâ€ doesnâ€™t work and additives are no big deal. We will identify foods that heal the gut, feed the brain, support the immune system and help to detoxify. Most importantly, we will cover how to help children (even picky eaters) enjoy these foods!

Julie Matthews is a leading US autism nutrition expert and Defeat Autism Now! lecturer. Julie specialises in biomedical diet and supplementation intervention, as well as healthy pregnancy. Her book, Nourishing Hope, and her work are based in scientific research and an understanding of the biochemistry of neurobilogical disorders and the role of nutrition to restore health

Blake Graham

B.Sc (Honours) – Clinical Nutritionist

Clinical Nutritionist Blake Graham is a passionate specialist in the fields of science-based nutritional, environmental and integrative medicine. He has Bachelor of Science and Honours degrees in Nutrition from Curtin University. Blake’s honours thesis investigated metabolic and nutritional aspects of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Blake is also an associate of the Australasian College of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (ACNEM) and has undertaken practitioner training with the world renowned Defeat Autism Now (DAN!) group.

Dr. Randy Beck

Dr. Randy Beck is a senior lecturer in Clinical Neurology, Clinical Diagnosis and Anatomy at Murdoch University in Perth. He also holds a concurrent position of Associate Professor in Clinical Neurology at the Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies in Florida, USA. Dr. Beck has authored a textbook, published by Elsevier entitled Functional Neurology for Practitioners of Manual Therapy. He has also authored numerous textbook chapters, journal articles and reviews in peer reviewed journals.

Dr Jason Prioir

Recent advances in the assessment of brain function may prove to be the new gold standard measurement useful for diagnosis and for the monitoring of therapy in children and adults with learning difficulties. While the technique known as electroencephalography or EEG has been around for many decades the digital age has stimulated a renaissance in the field of brain wave analysis over the last ten years. Quantitative analyses of the patterns of brain electrical activity recorded by the EEG (a QEEG) show remarkable consistency with conditions such as ADHD, Autism and Dyslexia, making it a useful tool that can support the process of diagnosis. It may also be used to monitor the effectiveness of patient therapy and enhancing its application. Since therapies for learning difficulties and issues of behaviour seek to normalize brain function it is important to understand how the brain is functioning and having a reliable baseline for comparison. The QEEG is one tool that can empower people with a better understanding of brain function and support better choices regarding therapy.

Jean has been working with children for 13 years and has had her own private practice for 10. (Melville Occupational Therapy and Extra Lesson for Children)Two years ago she went into partnership with Gillian Baker to establish Sound for Life, a clinic which delivers the Integrated Listening Systems, a form of sound stimulation. Her drive comes from seeing the child reach their maximum potential though the modalities of OT, Extra Lesson and sound therapy. Her approach is holistic, recognizing that the parent and teacher play a pivotal role in the child’s development

Anca Ramsden is a Clinical Psychologist and a trained high school teacher. Anca's special interest is in treating ADHD, autistic spectrum disorders, learning difficulties and neuro deficit disorders. For these groups she has developed a successful personal development program called Developmental Neuro-Psychotherapy which is suitable for adults and children. Currently Anca is in private practice, conducts research and trains psychologists and mental health professionals in Developmental Neuro-Psychotherapy.

Dr Nicole Avard

Dr Nicole Avard is a general practitioner working at Invitation to Health, an integrative family practice in Wyoming. Since attending her first MINDD conference in 2006 Nicole has developed a keen interest in nutritional medicine, focussing on children’s behaviour. Nicole practices in a holistic manner, understanding the link between physical health and emotional and spiritual well being. Nicole attended Pfieffer Outreach training in 2008
