The metabolism is a complex set of chemical reactions that occur in living organisms in order to create energy to maintain life. Understanding genetic polymorphisms, nutritional deficiencies, mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired detoxification, oxidative stress, chronic inflammation, cerebral hypoxia and impaired energy production is central to effective treatment of Autism and related neuro-biological disorders including allergies and ADHD.

Dr. Mumper is Medical Director of Defeat Autism Now! She is also President and CEO of The Rimland Center in Lynchburg, Virginia. Dr Richard Stuckey

Dr Richard Stuckey has been in General Practice for 39 years and was introduced to biomedical treatment protocols in 2004.
His initial work in this field was with adult illnesses such as schizophrenia, depression and anxiety.
Most patients showed significant clinical improvement when documented underlying nutritional deficiencies were identified and corrected.
This presentation will focus on those with Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorder. It will concentrate on biochemical identification of nutritional deficiencies, treatment strategies to correct these, case histories showing the clinical improvement when these imbalances are corrected, research data from assorted authors and a 1 year survey of 140 of his own patients.
The emphasis of the talk is that this approach is a piece of the Autism puzzle and that best results are likely to be obtained by the combination of nutritional correction with assorted early intervention strategies.

Many childhood disorders including ADHD, allergies, asthma, and autism stem from similar underlying causes such as nutrient deficiencies, digestive disturbances, inflammation, immune system imbalances and poor detoxification. In this session, you will learn how the health of the body and mind are interconnected, how poor digestion and gut imbalances affect the brain, and the importance of nutrition to the healing of these systems. We will dispel many myths of mainstream nutrition, such as “fat is bad”-lowfat is good, “the diet” doesn’t work and additives are no big deal. We will identify foods that heal the gut, feed the brain, support the immune system and help to detoxify. Most importantly, we will cover how to help children (even picky eaters) enjoy these foods!

Alistair has been in practice for the last seventeen years in Queensland, California, Colorado and Arizona having taken post-graduate studies in both Australia and the USA. In Queensland Alistair has served as the State President and Federal Council Member of the Australian Osteopathic Association. He is also a foreign affiliate member of the Cranial Academy in the USA.

Working predominantly with a biodynamic approach using cranial and visceral techniques Alistair is experienced in the whole scope of Osteopathic practice and treats people of all ages, having done extensive work with infants and children. Helen Merry is a Townsville-based Psychologist and Play Therapist with over 15 years experience in working with children and adults with developmental disabilities. She utilises the directive principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and the non-directive approach of Child-Centred Play Therapy (CCPT) to address the behavioural, psychological and emotional needs of the individual and to promote long-term change.

Janice Campbell

Ms. Janice Campbell: Janice is a Primary and Secondary Music Specialist with a Masters of Music (Kodaly Emphasis) Janice has recently become affiliated with Do Re Mi and runs Music classes for young children in Townsville. Studying the development of children has become an important focus in her music teaching. In particular the role reflexes (Primitive and Postural) play in the overall development of children. Much of this interest has been fostered by her own child and the developmental delays he has experienced both emotionally and cognitively over the past 4 years.

Became a Registered Nurse in 1969. Continued working in this field for 3years going on to Study Naturopathy. Rose has been practicing as a Naturopath for 35years

Behavioural Therapies, Emotional Intelligence & Self-Esteem 3:25pm - 3:45pm

Children with neuro-biological disorders are often challenged in relating to others socially and emotionally. In the case of ASD, behavioural intervention is essential to help develop social and communication skills. A range of behavioural interventions (ABA, RDI, Sonrise, Bridges) can be even more effective once biomedicine has addressed biochemical imbalances.

In the case of children with mood & digestive disorders, learning delay, allergies and all neuro-biological illness, the children often do not have full access to one of the primary responses to stress; to feel comforted by another, such as a parent, sibling, friend, or mentor. Many behaviours are expressions of this anxiety and when the anxiety is lowered behaviour can improve. Parents, teachers and carers can learn how to stimulate emotional intelligence through a range of exercises and games.
