Biomedical Treatments

Dr Jerry Kartzinel – MAPS Faculty

Dr Jerry Kartzinel is Board Certified pediatrician and a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics. He specializes in the recovery of neurodevelopmental, chronic neuro-inflammatory diseases, and hormonal dysfunctions.

After receiving his medical degree at St Louis University School of Medicine, he completed his residency in pediatric medicine in the Air Force. Following Desert Storm, Dr Kartzinel practiced general pediatrics in private practice for 10 years until his fourth boy was diagnosed with Autism.

 

A nationally recognized speaker and New York Times Best Selling Author, Dr. Kartzinel has presented medical interventions that work to improve the lives of his patients who suffer from many types of medical conditions that include: autism, allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea, sleep cycle disruptions, and hormonal imbalances. He regularly teaches Continuing Medical Educations courses on children’s health issues to physicians and other health professionals.

 

His clinical approach is to treat the whole patient by carefully obtaining a full and complete history and based on this history, obtaining very detailed laboratory evaluations. Individualized plans are implemented integrating the very latest medical interventions that include both traditional and complimentary medicine approaches.

Biomedical Treatments

Dr Nancy O’Hara - MAPS Faculty

Nancy O’Hara is a board-certified pediatrician. Until January 2010, she was the Assistant Medical Director for Defeat Autism Now! Physician Training and the Physician Mentoring Director for Defeat Autism Now! in Europe. She is now a partner at the Center for Integrative Health. Prior to her medical career, Dr. O’Hara taught children with autism.

 

She graduated magna cum laude from Bryn Mawr College and as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society from the University of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine. She earned a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. After residency, chief residency and general pediatric fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. O’ Hara was in private practice for seven years.

 

Since 1999, she has dedicated her practice to the integrative and holistic care of children with neurodevelopmental disorders and autistic spectrum disorders.

Jessica Tran (ND)

Dr. Jessica Tran is a doctor of naturopathic medicine with an integrative perspective on health and healing. She specializes in naturopathic medical care for children and adults of all ages with special emphasis on the impact of environmental factors on the human body. Dr. Tran’s comprehensive and diverse training allows her to combine traditional medical practice with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to diagnose and treat underlying causes rather than isolated symptoms and conditions, yielding more successful long-term results.

At Wellness Integrative Naturopathic Consulting, Inc., Dr. Tran provides science-based natural medicine for the prevention and treatment of common and chronic illnesses. Her approach to patient wellness begins with an in-depth analysis of the patient’s overall health, including the evaluation of external influences and lifestyle. For acute illnesses, Dr. Tran supports the body’s innate healing process through time-tested natural remedies and therapeutics; and if needed, she prescribes pharmaceutical medicines.

In addition to her Irvine, California office, Dr. Tran continues to maintain a small private practice in Arizona and consultation services to patients around the country.

Breathing Therapy for improved Brain Function

Dr. Rosalba Courtney – ND, DO, PHD

Dr. Rosalba Courtney is an Osteopath, Naturopath and Breathing Therapist with over 35 years of experience as a clinician, teacher, writer and researcher. Her PhD is on the topic and breathing dysfunction and breathing therapy. She is a passionate advocate for restoring children’s health using the fundamental elements of health; nourishing food, proper breathing and attention to structural development. She has for many years worked with children with many types of health problems by integrating Osteopathy with Nutrition and Breathing Training. She practices in Sydney.

Fundamentals of GAPS

Natasha Campbell-McBride M.D., MMedSci (neurology), MMedSci (nutrition)

Dr. Campbell-McBride graduated with Honours as a Medical Doctor in 1984 from Bashkir Medical University in Russia.   In the following years she gained a Postgraduate Degree in Neurology.

Dr. Campbell-McBride returned to practice in 2000 and runs the Cambridge Nutrition Clinic. She has specialised in using nutritional approach as a treatment, and has become recognised as one of the world’s leading experts in treating children and adults with learning disabilities and other mental disorders, as well as children and adults with digestive and immune disorders.

In 2004 she published a book Gut And Psychology Syndrome. Natural Treatment Of Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Depression And Schizophrenia where she explores the connection between the patient’s physical state and brain function. The book gives full details of the GAPS Nutritional Protocol, highly successful in treating patients with learning disabilities and other mental problems.  A second edition was published in 2010, and the book has been translated into ten languages.

In her clinic Dr Campbell-McBride works with many patients with heart disease, high blood pressure, arrhythmia, stroke and other complications of atherosclerosis. The result of this study is her book Put Your Heart in Your Mouth! What really is Heart Disease and what can we do to Prevent and even Reverse it. The book was published in December 2007.

 

Dr Campbell McBride is a member of the Mindd Foundation Medical Advisory Board.  She is also a Member of The Society of Authors, The British Society for Environmental Medicine, and a Board Member of the Weston A Price Foundation.

Dr Leila Masson

M.D., MPH, FRACP, FAAP, DTMH, IBCLC

Leila Masson is an integrative Paediatrician who combines Allopathic Medicine with a nutritional and biomedical approach to help her patients attain optimal health. She received her medical doctorate from the University of Berlin, did her paediatric specialist training at the University of California at San Francisco. She received her Masters in Public Health from Harvard University and her Diploma in Tropical Medicine from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Leila has worked in the US and Europe and volunteered for 2 years setting up a clinic in Pakistan, before moving to New Zealand, where she has lived and worked for the last 12 years. Leila has a busy practice in Auckland, specializing in a holistic approach to children’s health problems, including allergies, asthma, behaviour problems, autism spectrum disorders and ADHD.

Dr Christabelle Yeoh

MBBS, MRCP (London), MSc (Nutrition)

Dr Yeoh practiced environmental medicine at the Bracksphere Clinic in England before moving to Sydney. She specialises in the management of allergies, autism, chronic infections and chronic fatigue conditions. She has a broad knowledge of nutritional and environmental medicine as well as Energy Medicine as well as Chiropractic and a range of Allied Therapies. She previously trained with the DAN! group and the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. She is a member of the British and Australian colleges of Environmental Medicine, the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society and the Australian Integrative Medicine Association. She is a GAPS certified practitioner.

Rachel Arthur BHSc. BNat (Hons) MNHAA

Rachel Arthur is a respected and widely published Australian Naturopath specialising in integrative nutrition and with over 20 years experience in both the clinic and the classroom.   Rachel has become one of  Australia’s leading nutritional educators, delivering post-graduate training & mentoring to allied health care professionals and doctors alike. Rachel is regularly asked to speak at key conferences such as those organised by MINDD, ACNEM, NHAA, AIMA & the Australian Osteopathic Association. Nicole is an accomplished naturopath, acupuncturist and building biologist who has been in practice since 1989. She first became involved in environmental health when she began to notice the extent to which the home was causing illness in many of her patients and in addition, as a result of experiencing ten miscarriages from exposure to a high electromagnetic field. Nicole is the founder and CEO of the Australian College of Environmental Studies and was instrumental in developing the nationally accredited course in building biology (healthy homes). Dr. Stuart Glastonbury

Dr. Glastonbury currently works as a holistic GP in Newcastle utilising complementary and orthodox medicines with a special focus on herbal therapeutics.

Dr. Glastonbury began training in Western Herbal Medicine (WHM) in 1999. He followed this with a Bachelor of Medical Science (BScMed) at UTS and Medicine Bachelor, Bachelor Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Queensland. He has also completed the Diploma of Child Health (UniSyd/Westmead Children’s hospital).

Following graduation Dr. Glastonbury completed his Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and has been awarded Fellowship of the National Herbalists Association of Australia (NHAA).

He has taught complementary medicine at a number of colleges in NSW and QLD and is currently Vice President of the NHAA. He has completed the primary ACNEM course and is midway through a Masters of Public Health at the University of Newcastle.

In this presentation Dr. Glastonbury will introduce herbal medicines that can be safely and effectively utilised by health-care providers as key therapeutic interventions for the management of gastro-intestinal tract (GIT) infections and other GIT issues that are commonly encountered in children with pervasive developmental disorders.

Danielle Gregory

B.Sc. (Hons: Biochem), M. Chiro.

 

Danielle has been studying functional neurology since her last year of chiropractic school almost a decade ago. She has enjoyed working with students in different teaching roles. Danielle is part of a team that runs the Annual AAFN Functional Neurology Symposium and currently sits on the AAFN board. She recently toured America’s functional neurology scene and worked with some of the USA’s brightest clinicians in a variety of states, including several weeks at the Dallas Carrick Brain Center. She enjoys working with children with developmental delay, ADHD, ADD, visual disturbance, behavioural issues, Dyslexia, Aspergers and Autism. As well as adults with concussion, mild Traumatic Brain Injury, Vertigo and Vestibular disorders.
