April is Autism Awareness Month

Mindd Foundation

April is Autism Awareness Month and its important that we take time to acknowledge the amazing work of the Integrative Healthcare community that has helped improve the lives of so many individuals diagnosed on the Spectrum.

Back in 2005 when Mindd Foundation was launched, Autism rates were 1 in 150. This was an alarming figure that coalesced our community of concerned parents, practitioners, carers, educators, researchers and businesses dedicated to finding science-based healthcare solutions for so many struggling children.

We could never have imagined that 15 years later U.S. and Australian rates would be 1 in 54 and 1 in 63 respectively (1 in 34 US boys). Nor that climate change and COVID-19 would threaten to push Autism awareness off our radar.

But so much of what we have all learned about Autism through the lens of Integrative & Functional Healthcare is very relevant to protecting family and loved ones from the novel virus that drives the COVID-19 disease. Zinc and Vitamin C & D support the immune system in staving off infection. Pre-biotic starches, probiotics and fermented foods support healthy gut microbes that can regulate the immune system and dampen the cytokine storm. Melatonin supports circadian rhythm that offers a good night sleep while also supporting the immune system. Real food actually transfers important information via rNA from plant to human that influences genetic expression going down the generations. (For research references, articles, videos and tip sheets, visit our FREE COVID19 support module). And the choices we make to support our body’s innate ability to heal and regenerate are also vital for planet health (clean air, pure water, rich soil and safe energy fields).

Most importantly Autism has taught us about empowerment and hope. This hope springs from science-based education that focuses on epigenetics over genetics and teaches us that with the right diet, lifestyle and healthcare, conditions like ADHD, allergies, anxiety, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, depression, autoimmune and digestive issues stop getting in the way of a vibrant and happy life.

A body of research shows that many viruses, including SARS Coronavirus, lose their infectivity when exposed to UV light. If we all share our stories and shine enough light on our amazing Integrative practitioners, maybe cynicism towards climate change and natural healthcare will melt away too!
